Recent projects I’ve been doing

So I recently performed the music for a ballet in San Francisco. The company was Post:Ballet, the piece was called “The Happiness of Pursuit”, and we performed the show two nights at the Cowell Theater. As usual, I was joined by my partner in crime, Joe Hickey, and this actually counts as my first show I’ve ever played on electric guitar… I feel like I’m breaking the law with that. =^b We got good reviews in the San Francisco Bay Guardian and Speaking of Dance. We even got a nice mention on ABC7News. You can view a highlight reel here:

I also recently scored a short film for the HIV Story Project film compilation entitled “Still Around”. I don’t know how long it’ll be before the film is available for viewing online, but it’ll be making its way around film festivals within a few months, I gather.

Both of these things have got my creativity flowing, and I’m trying to crank out some new material while I’m on a roll. Woot.

Two shows this weekend, one great, one bitter-sweet

I’ll be playing at Yoshi’s in SF this Sunday night, 8pm – 11pm. That’s packed with all kinds of awesomeness, and it’d be great to see some friendly faces there.

The next night will be the final open mic at Blake’s. I’ve been going to this open mic for over 5 years, and have been doing the sound / co-hosting for about 3 years. The time has finally come to lay the old beast to rest. We’re throwing a big party that night, trying to get all the old regulars from the open mic’s history to come back and give it a proper send off. Although it’ll be sad to see it come to a close, it’ll be really good in allowing me to finally refocus my efforts a bit.

“All good things must come to an end.”

My return to dance

Well, not that I’m dancing, but I’ll still be on stage. I’m collaborating with Robert Dekkers and his company “Post:Ballet” on a world premiere at Fort Mason’s Cowell Theater. I’ll be performing original music live both nights.

Pandora, tonsils, sushi, and dying

Flux is going up on Pandora before too long. Exceptionally cool. I’ll post again when it’s available for streaming and thumbs-upping. In the meantime, if you’re curious what I listen to on Pandora, you can check it out at http://www.pandora.com/people/cloudforger

My dental hygienist told me that I have the biggest tonsils she’s ever seen in her life, and she’s been dentally hygiening for longer than I’ve been alive. Gross.

I’ll be playing at Yoshi’s Lounge in SF on Sunday, May 30, 8pm. Om nom nom!

Someone told me the other night that he wants to die to my music. I think that’s pretty awesome, but might only be fun the first time…

Thanks – had a great time at Cafe Du Nord!

Thanks to everyone who came out to my Du Nord show — everyone who bought a copy of Flux, or brought a friend, or stuck around and hung out after my set! I had an AMAZING time, the set went really well, and you all made it so much fun.

And here’s a video of the band and I playing Splinter, one of the new songs on the album:
(you can even watch it in full 720p-HD video, too!)

On the radio today, also, KALX rocks!

Too bad the blog comes after the fact, but KALX played a couple of my songs today – Accident, & To Say Yes to One Instant is to Say Yes to All of Existence.

In other news, also vote for KALX at http://radiowoodie.ratemyprofessors.com/ because they’re awesome and play people like me. =) Boom.

CD Release show on October 9 at Cafe Du Nord!

So, my new CD “Flux” is finally ready! My band and I will be performing at the wonderful Cafe Du Nord on October 9th w/ Essence, Pills & Jackets, and Forget About Boston!

I’m really looking forward to the show. I know my set will rock, I’m playing with some great bands (Pills & Jackets in particular), and Cafe Du Nord is pretty much the coolest place in the bay. Woot!

Just posted a video for “Stasis”

I’ve posted a video to youtube from my upcoming CD; I’m playing Stasis w/ Joe Hickey. This is from LastSundaysFest in July. It was a beautiful day, and a good festival. Hope you enjoy the vid!

Playing LastSundaysFest on Telegraph

I’ll be playing the LastSundaysFest later this month, July 26th, from noon to 6pm.  It’s a free music festival in Berkeley (on Telegraph, with stages at Bancroft and Amoeba).  More info as it becomes available on their website and/or my myspace.

Done recording the album! And playing a show in Alameda on Friday.

I’m done with all the recording / editing / mixing / producing / cud-chewing / etc.  The album is finished!  And by finished, I mean it still needs to get mastered (by my amazingly talented ME, just you watch, he’s sick!) and I still need to put the last touches on the artwork, but it’s D-U-N.  Werd.  It’ll be out soon.

And in the meanwhile, I’ll be playing a show this Friday, May 8, 8pm at the Rooster’s Roadhouse in Alameda, 1700 Clement Ave, at Grand… with my good friend and amazing musician Steve Laciak.  He’s one of my favorite people, musically and non-musically alike.  Join us for tunes and drinks (do they serve drinks?  they do?  oh good!) as we rock it out for you.
