So many words, so little room…

This is going to be a long post, so bullet points are my new best friend.

Film news:

  • I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be scoring an adaptation of Stephen King’s story Big Driver this summer! I’d love it if you went and watched the pitch and trailer over on the FB page, or at BigDriverMovie.com today. In the blink of an eye, we’ve already raised over $5k, and we would love any support you could offer for a very exciting and ambitious summer project.
  • One of my previous films, You Should Stop, recently screened in SF.  I’m very proud of that film, and it was a delight to finally get to see it on the silver screen.
My band, The Hangover Brigade, has been busy as of late, too:
  • We’re playing a show Friday, April 19th at The Hotel Utah, where we’ll be debuting a couple new songs & covers.
  • Tawnee & I recently recorded a duo-version of our new sexy song, “Any Way I Can Get It”, which you can stream & download for free right here:

  • And here’s a video of the whole band doing the same song at Cafe Du Nord last year:

New work with Post:Ballet this weekend

Post:Ballet has commissioned me to score their new work this season, titled “When in Doubt”. It premieres this weekend, July 20-21, at the Herbst Theatre.

The SF Chronicle has generously done an interview and write-up of our piece in advance of its world premiere, and the California Literary Review also has a nice interview with Choreographer Robert Dekkers.

Here’s a sneak peek of the score for you:

And here’s a sample of past work we’ve done together:

Busy couple weeks, and a new CD!

I’m playing with Tawnee Kendall & The Hangover Brigade this Saturday at Martuni’s starting at 5pm.

Second, we’ll be on Radio Valencia (87.9 FM) this Thursday, May 24, 8 PM on Baghdad by the Bay.

Most excitingly, we’ll be releasing our EP In Between Spaces at Cafe Du Nord on Saturday, May 26! We’ll be playing with Cassandra Farrar & The Left Brains, Dad’s LP’s, and Blisses B. (The day after Alma Desnuda, to boot!)

In film news, Bug ChaserOut Twin Cities Film Festival on Friday, June 1, and at FilmOut San Diego on Saturday, June 2nd.

A couple shows in February

I’ll be playing with Steve Laciak & Friends at the Fireside Lounge in Alameda on Saturday, February 11th. Expect some combination of guitar, glockenspiel, and hip-hop. Oh yeah.

A couple days later, I’ll be playing with Tawnee Kendall and the Hangover Brigade at the Red Devil Lounge, Tuesday, February 14th. That’s right, Valentine’s Day. Our band is the featured artist at their open mic, and I’ll sneak in a couple solo songs while I’m there, too. Come get your heart on with us.

Show time!

The first short film I scored, Ours is playing this Thursday, 12/01/11, at the Roxie Theater in SF @ 7pm, as part of Still Around. A number of the other filmmakers will also be there, if you’d like to join us!! Since the last time it played here in SF, it has screened in Prague, Czech Republic; Seattle; Milwaukee; and Bern, Switzerland. It’s playing tonight in Hamburg, and has upcoming screenings in South Africa, LA, Chicago, and many other places.

The more recent film, Bug Chaser, recently screened at the Dark Carnival Film Festival in Bloomington, IN, and I’m excited for more (and local) dates to start being announced.

I also recently recorded an album playing lead guitar on the amazing Tawnee Kendall‘s upcoming debut album. We’ll be playing our first show together at the Rockit Room on Saturday, Dec 17th, at 8pm as The Hangover Brigade. Come see us, and hear how awesomely we rock.

New dance project premiering this Friday

A sneak peek of my new collaboration with Post:Ballet will be showing this Friday at the 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco, 5-9pm. I’ve crafted a really neat soundscape for this piece, and am excited to debut it – see you there!

Playing a show at the Hotel Utah

I’ll be playing a show at the Hotel Utah on Sunday, October 9th, opening for Terra Naomi and my great friend Grace Woods‘s CD Release.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Short film playing @ Frameline35

Last year, I scored a short film for the HIV Story Project’s film “Still Around”, and I just found out it’ll be having its West Coast Premiere at Frameline35 in June! I’ll be there with the cast & crew to celebrate its release, please join me!

A recent review of its World Premiere in Boston described it, saying “The best films in this outstanding anthology give us … [t]he drama, dangers, and enrichment of finding out who you are–and laying claim to it–without letting labels get in the way.”

Playing a show @ the 1010 Collective, SOMArts Center

I’ll be playing a multi-disciplinary arts show for the 1010 Collective @ the SOMArts Center in SF. I’ll be playing with my usual partner in musicrime, Joe Hickey. Joining us, in various places at various times, will be other musicians, videos, foods, drinks, and art. Check out their website for more details.

Recent projects I’ve been doing

So I recently performed the music for a ballet in San Francisco. The company was Post:Ballet, the piece was called “The Happiness of Pursuit”, and we performed the show two nights at the Cowell Theater. As usual, I was joined by my partner in crime, Joe Hickey, and this actually counts as my first show I’ve ever played on electric guitar… I feel like I’m breaking the law with that. =^b We got good reviews in the San Francisco Bay Guardian and Speaking of Dance. We even got a nice mention on ABC7News. You can view a highlight reel here:

I also recently scored a short film for the HIV Story Project film compilation entitled “Still Around”. I don’t know how long it’ll be before the film is available for viewing online, but it’ll be making its way around film festivals within a few months, I gather.

Both of these things have got my creativity flowing, and I’m trying to crank out some new material while I’m on a roll. Woot.
